SSD/Win8
I bought an Intel 330 series 60G SSD and put win8 on it. Wow that thing boots incredibly fast. It was pretty quick on a standard 7200 platter drive, but on SSD it's even quicker. My work laptops older INtel X25-m SSD feels slower compared to this latest drive.
I just wish newer drivers for usb 802.11n were more readily available.

Why metro is great, and why I won't use it at all

People are too stupid to manage their windows. I know I am overwhelmed when I have too many windows open, and I'm definitely better at using computers than most people. I know you don't want to admit it, but YOU cannot handle having many windows open either.

At shutdown I sometimes get "DDE Server Window Explorer.exe - program error; The memory could not be read". I upgraded from an old Win7 install yesterday which has had no similar errors ever and is very "clean" (several installed programs but not cluttered, it is essentially a backup I made before I started to actually use the PC). Two usability questions (Picture view, starting programs)

I've had two weeks of Win 8 experience by now. I'm using it with an Acer T231H touchscreen display.

how do I get rid of the old desktop from windows 8
If I want to access my computer or control panel, windows 8 takes me back to the old desktop. It feels like I am using windows 7 again. I just want to keep Metro UI. Is there a way to eliminate that thing (the old desktop)?

Shortcuts to Startup?
I've searched through pages of entries but did not see this. I want to use a shortcut that contains command line options for pageant and have it start when my system boots/I log on.
But I can't figure out how to get anything but apps into startup.

Explorer encountered a problem, now can't use left-side gestures.
Title pretty much said it all. I was trying to add videos from my Host computer's folder to Windows 8's libraries, and ended up setting up a homegroup (apparently it doesn't recognize my host computer's homegroup). ASUS just put a Win8 dropdown for my mobo plus a new UEFI BIOS update.
I have three P8Z77-V Deluxe mobos. I went to check the software and firmware and found a NEW dropdown for Win8 64 bit today. There was also a new UEFI BIOS out at the same time with no description of what changed.
Check to see if your mobo manufacturer is putting out new stuff...
