can wifi adapter cause system freezes ?

So, i have an old microsoft mn510 wifi adapter, which i use to connect to the internet. I tried to use it on win xp/7/ 8, all are 32 bit versions. Driver for that wifi adapter officially supports only xp, but it works with all win versions. Problem is, when i use internet, my pc sometimes just freezes, and i have to reset it.
