I'm currently troubleshooting performance issues with my work PC. Even when I am not doing much, the memory usage is quite high.
I have 4GB RAM in the system (128MB allocated for the GPU, I believe, as System Properties window shows 3.88GB memory usable) and am running Windows 8.1 Pro with all the updates installed. I have McAfee VirusScan Enterprise as the security software.

Slow download when laptop on battery
Hello,
I have a Dell 7537 running win 8.1
I am experiencing significantly lower download speed when on battery
I am using an Ethernet connection
I noticed some settings in power management concerning WIFI but nothing about LAN
Does anybody know how to make it run as fast as it can?

WIn8.1 GNSS, location, doesn't support Glonass satellites?
For weeks I have been testing positioning in Win8.1 and Win7sp1 on an pc with a installed HP LT4112 4G/LTE card that support both GPS and Glonass satellites.
In Win7sp1 I can see bot GPS and Glonass satellites with the program VisualGPSView connected to the com-port that gives me NMEA-sentences (satellites data).

Windows 8.1 - How to set device default
I have an NAS (WD Mycloude ex2). On my windows 8.1 computers - desktop and laptop, when I click on My PC, then on Network an icon appears for the network drive. But when I click on it instead of seeing the folders that are on it, I see the "dashboard" (WD's control panel) for the device. I finally thought to right click on the device and it is set to "View Device Webpage" instead of to "Open"....

Windows wont boot " File: \Boot\BCD" error

Multiple instance of programs opening
Hi
On a W8.1 fully updated PC we have a problem where IE, XL, and Word are opening several instance of the program when the shortcut icon or all programs link is used.
The programs starts okay then after a few seconds the multiple instance start and continue to open until Task Manager is us4d to close them down
This was happening intermittently at first but is increasing as the days go...

cannot log in to some sites or forums
When I go to certain websites my computer won't let me log in.
I go through the log in process, and everything goes fine, but when I am redirected to the home page after logging in, I am still not logged in. I know it's not the website because they're forums and other people are posting

Windows won't login automatically after password change
Hi. I've changed my password for my pc but now it won't login automatically. When I boot my pc it tries to login and fails telling me the password is wrong. I then have to type in the password and it logs me in. I seems like it has changed my password for the pc but not for the auto login. I checked my settings and it still says that users do not need a password to login.
Any ideas? :shock:

exe/bat files not found in the path
I have a Lenovo Ideapad s510p running original Windows 8.1. Bought it in May'14.
The problem is that it's not able to find & run some bat & exe files given in the '%Path'. Whereas it can find some - it can't find some others. So it doesn't run them unless full path is specified.
This is a big issue. The Path & PATHEXT variables are configured properly.

Disable Windows\Recent\CustomDestinations ?
I've disabled recent items and jump lists, but still windows is creating files there every 2 minutes
It's annoying, not any other thing in the system writes that often

So I'm wondering if this
Selected boot image did not authenticate can be fixed by re formating the HD and re installing a retail copy of W8.1 on a HP laptop.
I may end up winning a bid on this thing, eems the guy didn't post this problem till the bid was in, but I think it can be fixed with a re install of the OS, there are no system recovery disks, but I have a copy of W8.1 and a retail key...

Recent frustrations going from Windows 8 to 8.1
I have formatted Windows 8.1 many times (Installing Windows 8 then upgrade to 8.1 which is a pain)
I formatted again recently after buying 2 new ssds. (for storage not for the OS)
Anyway, these are my usual Windows 8.1 install steps -
1) Install W8
2) Install intel network drivers to gain internet access
3) Install Windows updates
4) Install W8.1

Windows 8.1 won't boot, automatic repair failure

Hi i have had windows 8.1 for a while now and i have come over an error. It says 'windows cannot find C:/Users/Alex/AppData/Local/vPilot/vPilot.exe', make sure you've typed the name correctly and try again. I have looked in the file and the .exe is there. CAN ANYONE HELP?:mad:

Solved Win8.1 OneDrive sync error - UAC nag?
Today when I start my computer, this error comes up (translated, not exact message);
Cannot activate this app when UAC is deactivated.
